Demonstrations
The Minnesota Lace Society members enjoy sharing our passion for lace. You can see demonstrations of lacemaking and meet members at community events where our members make lace using many different techniques. Below are our current events. We hope you'll come and visit!
You can meet the lacemakers at the Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia, MN
May 3, 2025 | 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | 20880 Olinda Trail North
Demonstrations, including lacemaking, that you will see at the event:
- Lacemaking - Minnesota Lace Society
- Weaving - Scandinavian Weavers Study Group of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota
- Embroidery/Sewing - Natalie Norman
- Knitting - Laila and Kate from Knit & Gather
- Swedish Dalmålning (Painting) – Kim Garrett
- Rosemaling - Ronna Thorson
The sponsor's main exhibit this year in the Welcome House is "Explore the World of Immigrants"
- The path from the late-1700s to mid-1800s in Sweden through artifacts from that time period
- What immigrants first saw when they arrived in Minnesota (white pines and prairie)
- Wildlife that was common in the 1800s
- Establishing a new life in Minnesota, including documents and other legal processes
You may see the similarities that many immigrants - no matter where they previously lived - had with one another. There is so much that people have in common when they immigrate to a new country, yet each journey is incredibly personal, and filled with anticipation, hope, and challenges.
